Fetish Icons Julie Newmar

Julie Newmar was already well known for her work as a dancer and actress on Broadway by the time she was cast as Cat woman on the 60's Batman tv show, but that is where I first saw her.

In 1957 she got her first tv part as Suzie in The Phil Silvers Show picture and clip below, and thanks to Andy for letting me know about that. A few years later she played a sexy, Amazonian android in My Living Doll and standing at 5'9 I can understand why she was cast. If you look closely at the clip from The Phil Silvers Show you will see that she is not wearing heels and is still looking down on the rest of the cast.

However, it was in 1966 that she began playing Catwoman. Looking back at it I'm surprised the network got away with having someone as sexy as Julie Newmar dressed in a catsuit on a kid show, but I am glad they did.

After Batman, she carried on working on stage and screen. In the 70's she invented and sold lingerie and then in the 80's she became and real estate mogul.

Truly one of the sexiest women who ever lived.

Fetish Icons Bettie Page

Betty Mae Page was born on 22nd April 1923 in  Nashville, Tennessee. She moved to New York in 1947 to enroll in acting classes. In 1950 she met Jerry Tibbs on a beach at Coney Island and began to model for him, one year later she was working with Irving Klaw and his mail-order business promoting cheesecake and fetish imagery. After that, her popularity grew until in 1955 she was Miss January 1955 in Playboy magazine. However, by 1958 Bettie quit modelling and moved to Florida.

It was not until the 70's and 80's that she began to build a cult following and for a long time she had no idea that she had been crowned the "Queen of Bondage".

Bettie Page is so iconic her hairstyle is known as "Bettie Bangs" today and you do not have to look far to see her influence on modern fetish culture.
